The man in black fled across the desert and the gunslinger followed. The desert was the apotheosis of all deserts, huge, standing to the sky for what looked like eternity. It had been blinding and white and waterless and without feature save for the faint, cloudy haze of the mountains which sketched themselves on the horizon. An occasional tombstone sign pointed the way, for once the trail that cut its way was a highway. Coaches and buckas had followed . The entire world had shifted since that time. The entire world had emptied. Watch the man in black fled across the desert and the gunslinger followed top SoI just finished reading Steven King's"Dark Tower" series... Fantastic. A western/sci-fi/horror magnum opus. I had read but life happened. Finished off it yesterday.
It was worth returning to. Radically different from whatever King's ever achieved. I took the opportunity. Roland Deschain is just one among literary fiction's greatest personalities. "the person in Black fled across the desert, and the Gunslinger followed..." Anyone else read ? ? Certainly one of my personal favorite literary characters would be Roland Deschain, by Stephen King's"The Dark Tower" series of books. Set in a literary version of the society, Roland could be the last of the gunslingers, knights of a now-lost world. Independently and undeterred, Roland pursues the person in black, the personification of evil. By the starting point of this very first publication:"The man in black fled across the desert, and the gunslinger followed.
